IMMERSIVE PROJECTION MAPPING ROOM IN A SHIPPING CONTAINER

At Lumenarius our aim is to spread the light of projections far and wide, big and small.

For a recent activation a client was looking to create a next level immersive art experience inside of a standard shipping container to debut at a world renowned event by the name of Burning Man.

To achieve this we drew on our deep bag of experience to custom design, fabricate, and install a projection mapping system with audio fit for a truly out of this world happening!

THE EXPERIENCE

Simply step in and let the spectacle inspire you!

Once inside of the container an aura of beautiful sound emanates from the immersive room.

Once inside wall to wall visuals immerse the guests as do the synchronized melodies of sound.

Coral reefs, redwood forest, the cosmos and more await each attendee as they perch upon a custom fit circular bed to take it all in.

Specific attention was given to the fit and form of the projectors to eliminate shadows and provide a pixel perfect calibration ensuring the magic is what is most apparent.

THE SYSTEM

Given the intimate dimensions of a shipping container we needed to ensure to system design was pixel perfect to the inch.

As with every permanent installation this project started with an exacting 3D model in which we placed all of the assets to ensure the projected images hit the mark.

After developing these models we easily rendered out a few photo-realistic images to share with all of the teams.

Once cleared for take off we took all of the plans to the CNC machines and started fabricating the custom mounts for the projector.

With this we also built an indoor ready Lumen Server which houses all of the equipment in an industry standard rack mount case.

Even though the system is rock solid and completely automated we also shipped it with a remote control to provide an easy interface for controlling the volume, playback, and other parameters of the show.

THE CONTENT

The content was specifically sourced and designed to offer an environmental look and feel.

The client was looking to go to the rainforest with a button press, be transported underwater with another click, and then to contemplate life while floating above the Earth.

All of this was achieved with a combination of custom content creation and some amazing found footage that was formatted, upscaled, and layered to achieve videos that were 20-30 minutes in runtime with seamless looping.

By using our signature iterative approach to content creation we were able to work with the client to develop these custom looks, 20 scenes in all, from only a few bullet points and reference images. This back and forth process yielded amazing works with clear sign off and feedback along the way.
