WOODWORTH APARTMENTS

To celebrate the arts in the urban theater is to work with the features of the city landscape directly.

Lumenarius paired with Sea Level Properties to activate a large brick wall on the southern side of their new apartment building with a permanent 3D projection mapping system.

The system elevated the architecture and visual appeal of the building to achieve an ever changing video mural for digital artists and inspiring content to be displayed on each evening.

THE EXPERIENCE

The show adds a beautiful visual component to the community.

An eye catching projection show that shines on each evening for all people to see in the pedestrian oriented neighborhood.

The show can be seen on walks home, during nightly errands, and for many occasions over a long summer weekend.

“I know that took some time to assemble, but it really made it clear what the issue was in a very easy to understand way. Your commitment to sticking with us through this project has been great.”

∆ Project Manager, Sea Level Properties

THE SYSTEM

Seattle is an area known for its frequent and popular showcasing of mural and sculptural art throughout the city.

To ensure the show was a hit it needed to surely be bright enough to compete with the noise of the city, to be long lasting, and also flexible enough to feature new and emerging content.

To accomplish a set of dual laser projectors were chosen to cover the wall evenly and with high definition using 36,000 lumens of light. An industrial computer was installed between the two to facilitate all playback, remote access, scheduling, and viewing.

All of these components were mounted in custom outdoor rated rooftop enclosures able to withstand the cold and snowy winters through the hot and sunny summers.

THE CONTENT

The 5 story structure featured a perfectly blank canvas for conveying beautiful imagery and artistic content on.

The creative team at Sea Level Properties and PCNW has been able to run with the platform and has hosted multiple regional artists over the course of the installation.

In the samples below observe how the content interacts with the perimeter of the building. In person this really takes the visual effect to the next level for it is as though the content really is there reacting to the specific features of the architecture.
