360º PROJECTION MAPPING FOR MANATEE COMMUNE ON ICE AT THE NEPTUNE THEATER

An entire venue filled with immersive projected visuals was the perfect compliment to the dreamy and melodic dance hits of Manatee Commune for their event, On Ice!

After many conversations about the possibilities Lumenarius was tasked with activating the entirety of the 360º ceiling at The Neptune Theater in Seattle, WA.

The room is massive and the setup involved many projectors across the room aligning in a pixel perfect manner to bring the ceiling to life in a seamless, convincing, and awe inducing way.

Lumenarius worked with Manatee Commune to ensure the looks would be on brand and match the energy of each original song.

Ferns, waves, snow, and rich textures were all combined live to the beat for the elation of a sold out crowd below.

BELLINGHAM ACID BALL EARTH DAY PROJECTIONS

The Waypoint Park in Bellingham, WA is an amazing new foray into opening up the waterfront in the heart of the city. What a scenic location for some projections, yes?

Along this historic shoreline where the old meets the new is an ancient spherical vessel from the industrial past that is now on display.

This is the Acid Ball.

For Earth Day, April 22nd of 2021, Lumenarius teamed up with Nick Hartrich and Sienna Dawn for a spontaneous nod to the 3rd rock from the sun.

The location had plenty of space, a great view, with the Acid Ball as prime subject for 3D projection mapping.

The content was a clear choice: animated NASA satellite imagery set to downtempo electronic music.

In proper Bellingham style many denizens drifted in and saw the show as the Sun transited the horizon directly behind.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to see this on a more permanent basis?
Perhaps featuring live weather or information about the cosmos?

12TH AVE ARTS CENTER ARCHITECTURAL PROJECTIONS

The 12th Avenue Arts Center is a forward thinking building in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood sporting an apartment complex with well furnished art studios throughout the first two floors.

The exterior also happened to be perfect for architectural projection mapping.

To ring in the grand opening of 12th Ave Arts Lumenarius was asked to provide a creative visual display of 3D projection mapping for the August 2016 Capitol Hill Art Walk.

It was thought best to paint the architecture with visuals created by the hands of 3 area artists:

DYLAN NEUWIRTH
LIZ TRAN
FRANK CORREA

For this Lumenarius created a video capture setup enabling the varied style of each artist to be recorded.

The canvas was a 3D printed scale model of the front facade of the 12th Ave Arts Center. With a camera mounted above this canvas all the individual steps and motions of the creative process were captured in full HD video. This was then the video content used for the projection mapping show itself.

The result was as if a larger than life mixed media mural was being created right before your eyes. Neon. Paint. Ferns. More Paint. So much yes!

It was fascinating to see each artist get a grasp of the potential and then apply their signature touch.

On site the effect was achieved via our mobile projection mapping vehicle. By using an automobile as a stationary base urban projections can be realized with ease and flexibility.

With some of the best weather of the season the streets were packed with those enjoying the art walk. Having the entire side of a building lit up as part of the occasion helped bring the art out of the gallery and into the streets while highlighting 12th Ave Arts itself.

LARGE SCALE 3D PROJECTION MAPPING AT UPSTREAM MUSIC FESTIVAL

Multi-story buildings and large parkways became the canvas for epic 3D projection mapping and immersive LED art installations over the inaugural Upstream Music Festival in the heart of Seattle’s Pioneer Square.

In 2017 the curators of the festival approached Lumenarius with the goal of activating three unique locations in the urban venue with creative applications of light and projections.

The first and largest activation was just outside of the WaMu Theater where two multi-story buildings came to life with live painting via projection mapping.

By using drawings of the buildings scale models of the facade were created from which selected artists painted mixed media collages on. This process was captured in real time with an overhead camera and then projected 1:1 onto the building so that it appeared as though larger than life hands and brushes were creating surreal murals.

For the next activation the trees on both sides of a street spanning a full city block were lined with custom fabricated, outdoor rated, TUBIX LED Pixel Bars programmed to pulse along the sidewalk from one venue to the next.

Lastly, the curators at the legendary Smith Tower requested an illuminated scale model of their building to be installed on their 18th story deck to which we were delighted to provide.

Overall the festival was a superb occasion of which so many local artists, musicians, and patrons attended throughout scores of venues all over Pioneer Square.

STAR WARS THEMED PROJECTION MAPPING AT FOX THEATER

Epic proportions of light, video, space, and sound collided in true orchestral form at the legendary Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox in Spokane, WA for a night of live music and illuminating 3D projection mapping.

With an interior as intricate as the 7 chapter plot line of Star Wars The Fox Theater had many facets to activate with our special blend of custom content creation and projections.

The first step was to recreate the entirety of the space in 3D so that the content could be fitted and composed to the scores being rendered by the live orchestra below.

From there imagery and video content was generated to match the theme, tone, and vibe of each arrangement. Elements of Tatooine, Hoth, Alderaan, and more were rendered as files that could be improvised live alongside the Spokane Symphony. All of which were projected across the ceiling, walls, main screen, and special “planets” on stage.

It was wonderful to see the city turn out to support the legendary theater while enjoying a completely unique visual treatment of the space never quite seen before.

CAPITOL HILL BLOCK PARTY LIVE 3D PROJECTION MAPPING

CHBP is a supreme highlight of the summer for the greater Seattle area.

Music, Arts, and Urban Life.

From 2012 - 2019 Lumenarius was honored to help provide a signature look for the main stage of the 6-block celebration.

By leveraging our experience in 3D projection mapping and live video a truly larger than life effect was produced wherein real time camera feeds from the main stage were projected onto the surrounding buildings to give people many blocks back a glimpse of the action!

It was an absolute blast to help
elevate the visual appeal of many
legendary artists such as:

odesza - The Flaming Lips - Girl Talk - Crystal Castles - Chromeo
Run The Jewels - Purity Ring - Washed Out - Big Wild - STRFKR
CHVRCHES - Lizzo - Father John Misty - and so many more!

GENERATIVE DESIGN PROJECTOR ENCLOSURE

Functional art has a large emphasis in the Lumenarius design process. Any given system or component needs to function optimally while also looking good.

Generative design is a process which enables the best of both worlds and that is what this piece is all about.

For a recent installation in the lobby of Amazon’s Seattle Headquarters Lumenarius was tasked with creating a projection mapping system that would activate a sculpture of books.

The projector itself was to be visible in the lobby and for that to look the part it needed to be stylish and physically sound. The interface where the enclosure met the ceiling was of utmost importance. A monolithic piece of aluminum would do but it would be too heavy. Enter generative design.

This process allowed for the simulation of the stresses involved and the procedural subtraction of excess material to lighten the load without compromising the integrity. After many rounds the following result was produced which was in turn cut into reality by a CNC router.

It was a beautiful moment when the installation finally came together. We were absolutely thrilled with the result and so was the client and installation team.

90TH ANNIVERSARY 3D PROJECTION MAPPING SHOW FOR PARAMOUNT THEATRE

The legendary Paramount Theatre of downtown Seattle, WA was turning a milestone in their history and was looking for a way to elevate the visual treatment of the already sterling architecture.

For this Lumenarius was honored to provide by casting the interior of the Main Hall with rich projected visuals during the performances of renowned area group, Death Cab for Cutie, and more!

To achieve a pixel perfect show 3D models of the spaces to be activated were created so that projector position and content creation could be advanced.

After this phase it was time to arrive and setup a fleet of projectors to properly engage the historic adornments and features of the halls.

As guests arrived they were elated by branded visuals celebrating the history of the space in ways never before seen inside the venue.

During the main performance of the American rock band, “Death Cab for Cutie”, the visuals were mixed live to the beat of the drum, tone of the guitars, and ending on point so that the worlds of audio and visual were in harmony.
